The dining hall inside the new Arrillaga Student Center is designed to serve as a central gathering place where students can recharge, connect, and move comfortably through the rhythm of the school day. As part of the larger student center development at Iolani School, the space needed to accommodate a high volume of students while maintaining an environment that is safe, efficient, and easy for staff to manage between meal periods. Seating capacity, durability, and daily functionality are key considerations in ensuring the dining hall could support the school community for years to come.

Systemcenter approached the project with a solutions-driven mindset, working closely with the project team to understand how the dining hall would operate day to day and what furniture would best support those needs. Through this collaborative process, the team identified a cafeteria table solution from KI, a global leader in innovative furniture solutions for education environments, that aligned closely with the operational goals of the space.

The selected KI Uniframe® Cafeteria Tables are designed to support the flexibility and durability required in high-traffic school dining environments. The tables feature individual stool seating and a folding design that stores seats parallel to the tabletop, discouraging climbing while minimizing dust buildup when the tables are folded. Built for ease of use, the Uniframe tables can be easily moved, rearranged, and stored, while the open frame design allows staff to clean underneath quickly and efficiently. This configuration allowed the dining hall to meet its required seating capacity while providing a flexible environment that can adapt to multiple uses throughout the day, supporting the energy and movement of a busy student center.
