Queen’s Medical Center West Oahu Same Day Surgery
Systemcenter Project #25937
Expanding Care for a Growing Community
To meet the rising demand for healthcare services, The Queen’s Medical Center West Oʻahu expanded its offerings with a new Same Day Surgery facility. This outpatient center eases the burden on acute care units while ensuring patients receive timely treatment close to home. Designed by Design Partners Incorporated and built by Gateside Inc., the project was honored with NAIOP Hawaii’s prestigious 2025 Kukulu Hale Award for Renovation—recognition that highlights its impact in expanding access to quality healthcare and its contribution to the growth and vitality of the West Oʻahu community.
Thoughtful Design for Critical Care
Systemcenter partnered with Queen’s designer Jennifer Sanders to furnish a space that supports patients and providers through one of life’s most stressful experiences: surgery. From waiting areas to prep rooms, every detail was selected to balance durability, efficiency, and a calming environment.
For example, the Wieland Perk Folding Chair with Smart Rail was chosen for prep rooms. Its ability to fold flush against the wall keeps pathways clear for staff while still making room for loved ones to sit nearby. Small choices like this reinforce both safety and compassion—ensuring care can be delivered seamlessly while preserving human connection and support.
Tailored Product Solutions
Systemcenter sourced and delivered a range of solutions, each matched to the unique demands of a surgical environment:
-
Haworth – Maari seating, Jive tables
-
Wieland – Hale Metal waiting chairs, Perk folding chairs with Smart Rail, Cove recliners, Dune end tables
-
Salsbury Industries – Aluminum locker benches
In waiting areas, comfortable yet durable seating offers reassurance to families. Recliners and supportive furnishings give patients comfort and dignity, while behind the scenes, functional details like locker benches enhance staff efficiency.
Lasting Value for the Community
The Same Day Surgery Center stands as a promise to West Oʻahu: access to premium care close to home. By guiding Queen’s through thoughtful procurement, phased logistics, and patient-centered design, Systemcenter helped create a facility that delivers surgical services once only available “in town”—bringing peace of mind, efficiency, and life-changing care directly to the community it serves.
