SPACESAVER LED Illuminated Library Shelving
The new Riddell Library and Learning Centre at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, is filled with modern amenities like technology-enabled classrooms, a makerspace, and a variety of collaborative work areas. In addition to these contemporary features, members of the project planning team also wanted to provide on-site access to the institution’s entire book collection.
The planning team wanted the bookstacks to be as bright, appealing, and innovative as other areas throughout the library, so they ordered Spacesaver’s illuminated library shelving. Spacesaver’s energy-efficient in-shelf LED lighting system illuminates the books’ spines on each shelf and the steel shelving frames enclose a hollow conduit to provide space for electrical wiring. An LED light strip with an adhesive back mounts to the underside of each shelf, illuminating the shelf below. The light power supply plugs into a standard outlet and can power up to 24 light strips, or 24 shelves. Up to five power supplies can be daisy-chained together to power up to a total of 120 lights.
The end result is a complete, self-contained solution that not only provides convenient and accessible storage for books and classroom materials, but that also serves as a stunning architectural feature.
Spacesaver’s illuminated shelving is available in any standard or custom cantilever shelving size, and it’s primarily used in stationary (static) shelving applications.
