Systemcenter and Haworth’s West Coast Tour: Bringing Innovative Design from LA to Hawaii

Systemcenter is more than a commercial furniture and storage dealer; we’re dedicated to bringing inspiring, versatile solutions to our community of architects and designers. We recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Los Angeles, immersing ourselves in a series of showrooms—Emeco House in Venice Beach, the Haworth Showroom in Downtown, and Janus et Cie in Beverly Hills—that showcased innovative design, sustainability, and quality craftsmanship. This trip wasn’t just about products; it was a refreshing creative experience for us and our partners, recharging minds and uncovering new perspectives on what makes a workspace thrive.

Emeco House: Sustainability Meets Lasting Design

Our journey began at Emeco House, a restorative space crafted specifically to inspire the A&D and artistan communities. Here, we connected with the daughter of Emeco’s owner, Jaye Buchbinder who shared Emeco’s incredible commitment to sustainability. With designs that are built to uphold their 150 year warranty on all products, Emeco offers a timeless elegance and simplicity that set their products apart. Hearing the brand’s sustainability stories and impressive collaborations with legendary designers like Philippe Starck firsthand helped us appreciate Emeco’s dedication to environmentally responsible design—a philosophy we are excited to incorporate into our projects.

Emeco House gave us a fresh perspective on how sustainable, lasting design can create timeless spaces that leave a meaningful impact.

Haworth Showroom: Elevated Quality with Panoramic Views and Insightful Design Perspectives

Our second stop took us to the Haworth Showroom, where we experienced the elevated quality, look, and feel of Haworth’s furniture in person—all framed by panoramic views stretching from the Hollywood sign to Malibu and inland toward the San Gabriel Mountain Range. As Hawaii’s Preferred Haworth dealership, this visit was invaluable for showcasing the full potential of Haworth’s breath of lines in a variety of applications from office and education to healthcare and residential. We explored everything from innovative seating solutions to adaptable workspace systems, each crafted to support a seamless, comfortable, and flexible environment.

What made this visit even more impactful was the opportunity to hear from Haworth Senior Workplace Design Strategist, Doug Sitzes, an expert consultant who shared research and insights into today’s most pressing workplace challenges—like managing burnout, achieving work-life balance, and designing environments that make returning to the office a positive experience. This session underscored Haworth’s design philosophy centered around creating spaces that actively support wellbeing, productivity, and a sense of balance.

Through this experience, we deepened our understanding of how Haworth’s thoughtfully designed spaces can serve as solutions for real-world issues, providing not only functional workspaces but also environments that promote overall wellness.

The Haworth Showroom felt like an interior designer’s playground, where we could truly immerse ourselves in the craftsmanship, quality, and thoughtful design that make Haworth a leader in elevating the modern workspace.

Janus et Cie: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Design

Next, we explored the outdoor-inspired Janus et Cie showroom, where vines and lush walls created a welcoming entry into their collection of durable outdoor furniture. Janus et Cie’s dedication to producing weather-resistant pieces stood out in a CEU session, where we learned about the brand’s unique materials and maintenance techniques. Each product is meticulously designed so that connective fasteners are hidden, allowing for a seamless, sculptural appearance.

In a world where outdoor and indoor spaces increasingly blend together, Janus et Cie offers products that merge beauty with durability, perfectly suited for both settings.

The Getty Villa: Inspiration from the Past

Our last stop brought us to the Getty Villa, where we explored J. Paul Getty’s remarkable collection and architectural masterpiece that houses his collection. With a private tour, we delved into the history and artistic legacy preserved in the Villa, surrounded by breathtaking views and timeless works. This setting was a perfect reminder of the lasting impact design can have, connecting past and present.

The Getty Villa gave us a profound appreciation for timeless design and the importance of creating spaces that inspire for generations to come.

Our Commitment to Hawaii’s A&D Community

Through this trip, we not only deepened our understanding of the products we offer, but also strengthened relationships with our A&D community. We’re excited to bring these inspirations home to Hawaii, collaborating to create spaces that blend creativity, sustainability, and functionality for projects that truly stand out.

We look forward to working with each of you to bring these incredible solutions to life! If you are interested in joining us on a future design tour, please be sure to get on our mailing list or by emailing us at info@systemcenter.com.
